A yet-to-be-launched “share” feature for Meta Quest VR headsets may have been discovered in the operating system’s code. UploadVR reports that the new functionality may allow you to share views of individual 2D windows on your headset with other Quest users.

In a post on X, a VR fan known as Luna, who frequently posts about headsets, did a deep dive into the Horizon OS code and discovered a string inside version 76 with what appears to be tooltip text for a “share” ability that “shares a panel so that other users in your world can see it,” as well as an opposing “unshare” string.

UploadVR speculates that this functionality may allow you to share items such as your web browser or other windows within your virtual home. The Quest already has certain sharing capabilities, including the ability to share first-person VR or mixed reality views with others. YouTube VR already enables Meta Quest users to watch videos together. However, no other apps currently allow you to share a specific two-dimensional window.

Luna compared this new capability to Apple’s SharePlay on VisionOS, which supports a variety of apps such as Hulu, Max, and Apple TV Plus. Meta did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
